Hong Kong Bubble Waffle Maker Review

Hong Kong Bubble Waffle Maker Review

The Full Review

In Hong Kong, Bubble Waffles are the #1 snack. Since moving to the US, we really missed them. So, we decided to make our own.

Both the recipe and the griddle are key to making a great Bubble Waffle. The bubble shape is what makes it special and you simply cannot duplicate it with any other waffle maker.

We wanted a machine that duplicated the Bubble Waffles from the Hong Kong street stands. It had to make a waffle with even Bubbles and produced the consistent temperature to create a crispy exterior and custardy interior.

This review will detail a professional use and a home use machine.

Our Final Opinion

The ALD Kitchen FY6 is our preference. Because it has the temperature adjustment and a timer feature, it really does a fine job of producing an evenly colored waffle.

Also, the ALD Kitchen FY6 is structured to easily flip the distribute the batter evenly throughout the griddle. Plus, it is a commercially graded product, so the quality and durability is much higher than a machine made for home use.

We also used this in our Bubble Waffle shop a few years ago and it performed exceptionally. The part we disliked was cleaning off the batter. But making waffles was never a “clean” process. You have to expect this when working with oozing batter.

The StarBlue Hong Kong Egg Waffle Maker is an acceptable starter machine for home Bubble Waffle Makers. If there was an ability to adjust the temperature, we would like it a lot more. The lack of temperature adjustment tends to produce an uneven colored waffle ~ meaning, some parts of the bubbles turned out too dark and other parts were too light.

But for the first time waffle maker, it’s inexpensive and depending on the recipe that’s used, this machine produces a an acceptable tasting waffle. It’s just not that “pretty” like the ones you buy from the street vendors.

But, the StarBlue is acceptable to produce a good waffle when the craving hits. A lot of the authenticity and how it compares to a restaurant quality waffle also depends on the recipe that you use.
